Advertising:

What is advertising?
Advertising is a form of communication used to persuade an audience (viewers, readers or listeners) to take some action with respect to products, ideas, or services.  Most commonly, the desired result is to drive consumer behavior with respect to a commercial offering, although political and ideological advertising is also common.

Advertising messages are usually paid for by sponsors and viewed via various traditional media; including mass media such as newspaper, magazines, television commercial, radio advertisement, outdoor advertising or direct mail; or new media such as websites and text messages.

Research conducted from textbooks- this has allowed me to understand the different types of adverts and the different markets you can target, this will be something that I will have to think about.

The representation of the product or the user is very significant, also how this effects the target audience does it provoke the audience  to buy the product?

Brief:

This is the brief I have decided to choose for my A2 media coursework:
An advertising package for a new product or service, to include two TV advertisements, together with;
  • A TV programme sponsorship sequence
  • A radio advertisement
Initial Thoughts:
Initially I found it difficult to decide between the music video task (brief 1) and the advertising brief, as they both have different and similar elements, I thought that the music video would allow me to explore my creativity and would give me more freedom.
However I felt the Advertising task gave me extended possibilities to create an effective advert and the chance to research into the ideological issues and the nature and purpose of advertising itself.  Therefore I have chosen the advertising package as I feel it will be changeling but will allow me to embrace my originality.  I also am very interested in the adverting industry and would enjoy to work within this industry in the future.
I am excited to start researching the typical conventions and ideology behind advertising, I am going to start by analysing five adverts of my interest and consider the different and similar ways they promote their products.
